Guidelines for Australian visas

Australia has a migration path that follows the name of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC). This organization is responsible for screening and to issue a visa to go to Australia. The DIAC accepts 170,000 applications a year for permanent migration and family migration programs and 500,000 qualified under the visa regime for students and 250,000 temporary importation arrangements in Australia. There are more than three million annual visa to visit Australia and about 14,000 visas are set aside each year for humanitarian aid programs.

The DIAC manages visa subclasses 149, where 25 of the subclasses make up about 97% of all visas issued. These subclasses are among the employees, family members, visitors, students and humanitarian visas and are also reclassified further temporary and permanent visas and onshore and offshore.

Employee: These visas are issued for the employer sponsored job in Australia. This visa includes participants from areas such as religious, sports, diplomats, academics and entertainment.

Family: This visa is the second major category of migrants and contributes roughly one-third of all permanent residences each year. There are almost 45,000 visas a year under this program for spouses and for existing visas.

Visitor: This is the largest collection of visas approved by DIAC. This is awarded to citizens interested in directing sightseeing and Australia for a short period. Each student looking for an international course of primary or secondary education to follow language courses in English for Foreign Students (ELICOS), professional and traditional higher education eligible for this visa. Post completion of their studies, are also eligible for employer's work visa.

Humanitarian: Australia passes a fixed number of 14,000 visas per year for candidates who are refugees and seeking refuge in Australia on humanitarian grounds.
