How to Save Money on Homes

A rental house of summer vacation is a great choice for your family vacation. If you book a rental house for more than a week, it can often be much cheaper than a hotel. You will also have more space, and often you can have your own private pool and hot tub in the backyard.

1. Avoid early summer

The period between late May and early June is a notoriously bad time of year to get a deal on a vacation. This is the time when children leave school, and many families immediately rush to take a vacation. With many more families competing for the same real estate, vacation home owners have no incentive to lower their prices. It is much better to take your vacation in mid to late summer.

2. Be flexible in your dates

Rather than book a house based on the dates you want, you can try a different tactic. Instead, plan based on travel dates when a home is available. This not only gives you a wide selection of choices, but gives you the chance to get a discount.

3. Be flexible on the house

Instead of choosing the exact house you want to stay, you might consider asking the estate agent that homes are available. If you let them choose, they may be able to do it in a more luxurious house that you may have originally chosen - at a better price.

4. Special deals

This can save you more money. If there is a last minute cancellation in a house, or if the house has not been able to get booked and the date approaching, a realtor prefer to book the room to 40 or 50% of the normal price rather than seeing it empty seat for a couple of weeks.
